L.A. Fashion Week Fall '05: Rose Schott

Designer Cynthia A. Freund conceived the fictitious Rose Schott character when creating her new contemporary denim line, which is based on an Americana theme with a Wild West edge. But the resulting Rose Schott collection is more Hollywood than “Deadwood”—which is apropos because Freund is a longtime stylist who has helped craft the looks of such bands as Velvet Revolver and Matchbox 20, as well as Jane’s Addiction front man Perry Farrell.

Freund teamed with denim maker Schott NYC and The Circle Group (producers of Bill Wall Denim and Diamond Dogs by Cosa Nostra) to launch the collection, which bowed at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City on March 17.

The designer mixed Western and urban styles to create hoodies with exaggerated snap-closure cuffs and gave the cowboy shirt an updated, fitted silhouette and Asian floral prints. Freund also loaded her pieces with such details as fur trim, embroidered roses and corset lacing on the backs of jackets. Jeans were low-slung, and many of the pieces were dusted with gold screen-printed logos and graphics.

For drama, Freund included a curve-hugging Elvis jumpsuit with an exaggerated collar and a cutaway corset coat with an appliqueacute;d train worn over white stovepipe jeans. —Alison A. Nieder
