Men's Contemporary Co. to Build Street Vibe at CMC

Los Angeles–based Defiance USA Ltd. signed a three-year lease with the California Market Center Aug. 16. The company will bring its mod and rock ’n’ roll–inspired lines to the CMC when it moves into the C building’s 3,500-square-foot suite 402 by late September.

Defiance USA produces lines such as Fender, the Clothing Collection, English Laundry and Jimi Hendrix Experience, A Clothing Collection. Chief Executive Officer and Creative Director Christopher Wicks said his company is moving out of necessity. “We need a base camp,” he said.

The company started business in 1986. Its shirts are retailed at Nordstrom and specialty boutiques such as Habit in Costa Mesa, Calif.

CMC leasing agent Ben Lee brokered the deal. He said Defiance and Puma, which leased space on the fourth floor of the C building last year, will create a “street contemporary vibe” on the floor.
