Praying for Success

How can a mother of five who attended Bible College dazzle the fashion world?

Newcomer designer Nikki Krohnfeldt of Laguna Beach, Calif., aims to answer that question with her new line, In Rags.

The collection of updated misses coordinates and loungewear debuted with three dozen pieces during the recent Los Angeles Fashion Market, held Aug. 12–16. All indications suggest the line is off to a sound start.

“We did really well at market. Now we’re heading to MAGIC with some new pieces,” said Krohnfeldt, a bubbly blonde who once aspired to become an ordained minister after studying at the Rhema Bible Training Center in Broken Arrow, Okla.

Despite her conservative upbringing, Krohnfeldt is a bit of a bombshell and knows fashion. She once owned a chain of boutiques called Urban America in Orange County and stays on the pulse of the latest trends.

Krohnfeldt’s collection is appropriate for any Laguna socialite yet has a contemporary edge, as seen in her crushed-penne lounge suits.

Her rollout last week consisted of short and long flirty skirts, mostly in black with polka-dot panels and trim, and matching tops. Ruffles and Swarovski crystal details are prominent features. Krohnfeldt uses rayon crepes, chiffons and other lightweight fabrics for her day and evening sets and moves to the heavier crushed penne for her lounge pieces, which include man-tailored shirts, a “French Maid” dress and some sexy camis. The line wholesales from $36 to $78.

“They’re comfy and cozy. You can entertain in the home wearing these,” said Krohnfeldt of the lounge series.

The designer is adding nine dresses featuring vintage floral prints for Spring. The line is sold in the Sharon Koshet Sales showroom, located in suite B335 of the California Market Center. For more information, call (213) 623-6689. —Robert McAllister
