Velvet on the Move

Contemporary label Velvet by Graham & Spencer is relocating to Culver City, Calif., from West Los Angeles later this month.

Velvet will nearly triple its space when it moves into new headquarters at 3961 Landmark St. The new facility will span 40,000 square feet and will house cutting and other manufacturing operations, as well as design studios and administration offices.

Velvet, designed by Jenny Graham and Toni Spencer, has seen its business nearly double over the past year to $25 million and has outgrown its operating space, said company officials. Demand has come for its denim-friendly tops, sold in specialty stores such as Anthropologie, Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus and on the company’s Web site, www.velvetclothingstore.com.

During the past year, Velvet launched the Wyeth by Todd Magill line, which wrapped up its first season as an exclusive in Barneys New York. With business growing, company officials said they wanted to consolidate operations under one roof, bringing some manufacturing in house. —Robert McAllister
