Avery Releases RFID Starter Kit

Philadelphia-based Avery Dennison Corp. has released a radio frequency identification (RFID) starter kit aimed at outfitting companies that are facing mandates from retailers such as Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Target Corp.

The kit contains an RFID label printer, 500 class-I labels, a reader and demo software. The package also comes with one year of technical support.

The printer featured in the package, the Avery 64-05, includes a “jump the bump” feature that utilizes a flexible printer head to print labels with embedded RFID chips. The company said the kit can also be upgraded to the next generation of RFID protocols. Prices start at $7,395.
