Surf, Skate and Snow Style at ASR

Members of the action-sports industry—including retailers, exhibitors and press—attended the Action Sports Retailer Trade Expo fashion show, sponsored by Elle Girl magazine and held Jan. 14 at the San Diego Convention Center.

For the past two seasons, ASR has offered the fashion event as part of its trade show activities. As companies continue to expand their juniors offerings, the show has become a hit, showcasing the primary fashion trends of the season. Companies participating included Rusty, Hurley, Billabong, Roxy, L Space, Matix, Ezekiel, Split, Volcom, Gallaz, Lucy Love, Stussy, Amerikan, Rip Curl, Burton, Fox, O’Neill, DC, Free People and Etnies.

This season, rock ’n’ roll music icons provided inspiration. The show featured sexy swim and sportswear looks styled with an action-sports edge for Summer and Fall. The event began with swim styles paired with body-clinging skirts, longer-length tees and breezy boho tops in bright summer colors. Warm-weather sportswear looks included casual, long wrap dresses layered over jeans, cardigans worn with floral dresses and casual blazers paired with Hawaiian-print shorts.

The show then transitioned, merging key Summer pieces with fresh Fall looks. Brights accented muted shades. Smart blazers were paired with knee-length shorts, hoodies were layered over tees and worn with jeans or skirts, vintage cardigans were matched with distressed jeans, and shorts were topped by fur-trimmed parkas. The look was completed with plenty of beanies, newsboy caps, scarves, espadrilles, tennis shoes and boots of every possible variety, including fur-trimmed, suede and cowboy styles. —N. Jayne Seward
