Jak & Rae, a new line backed by Moshe Tsabag of Hot Kiss fame, is the latest company to join the showroom tenants at the Gerry Building.

The upscale collection of contemporary tops and bottoms is wholesale priced from $80 to more than $200. The line features vintage-tailored garments with European-sourced fabrics and fine detailing. There are denim items, jackets, camisoles, trousers and more.

“Buyers are telling us, ’You’re the next it,’” said vice president Stacia Diamond.

The line was first delivered last month to Southern California boutiques Lisa Kline, Fred Segal and Planet Blue and The Loft in Burlingame, Calif.

“We’re growing so fast, it’s crazy,” said Diamond, who is heading up sales on the West Coast while Kim Castelo manages East Coast sales from The Green Room in New York. The initial collection consists of about 100 pieces over four deliveries.

“They’re extremely detailed and all finely tailored,” said Diamond, showing a fine-gauge, cross-dyed corduroy. “The fit is amazing. The styling is different. It’s sophisticated.”

The Gerry Building has been considered a resource for urban and juniors apparel, menswear and lingerie. But the addition of the Jak & Rae showroom could help change that perception. Diamond is confident the building can become an important women’s contemporary source, as well.

“People have been coming to us. We’ve received walk-in traffic. The energy is great here,” she said. —Robert McAllister
