L.A. Fashion Week Fall '05: Deborah Lindquist

Deborah Lindquist presented her environmentally friendly recycled-fashion collection March 18 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City. The designer, who is based in Los Angeles’ Topanga Canyon neighborhood, had previously shown only at independent shows.

Lindquist said her “Peace, Love and Rock ’n’ Roll” collection was about “all the things that make you feel those emotions.” She designed styles for women, men and children, incorporating recycled cashmere sweaters, vintage sari fabrics, and tie-dyed Levi’s into the collection. The vintage styles were mixed with modern pieces in wool, tweed, lace, velvet and silk taffeta. The look was edgy but sweet, with butterflies, birds, flowers, peace symbols, skulls, crosses and Western motifs decorating the garments.

Styles included casual cardigans paired with tie-dyed jean skirts, flirty bustiers worn with ruffled skirts, and rock ’n’ roll tops mixed with ultra-tiny minis and cowboy boots. —N. Jayne Seward
