L.A. Fashion Week Fall '05: Rebecca Beeson

After founding her company more than six years ago, Rebecca Beeson presented her first full collection at her runway debut, held March 17 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City. The San Francisco–based designer delivered what she is known for: casual contemporary looks that are cute and fun.

The Fall/Winter 2005 show unveiled woolen trousers, fine-wale corduroy pants, colored jeans with embellished back pockets and bias-cut maxi skirts. All the bottoms complemented her snug tops, which were made of fleece, bamboo, wool/cashmere blends and cotton jersey. The animal-loving Beeson also offered shrugs, vests and hooded jackets in fake fur. Colors ranged from brown, rust and charcoal gray to coral and lilac.

Inspired by the 1960s and 1970s, as well as by California living, Beeson used thin layers, which, she said, allow a woman to wear a jersey tee under fur for a contemporary look.

“My main goal with this fashion show, the thing I keep thinking about, is making sure everything hangs together,” Beeson said. “I want everything to be interchangeable.”Khanh T.L. Tran
