Hosiery Tech Center Gets Government Grant

The Hosiery Technology Center (HTC), based in Hickory, N.C., was awarded a $397,000 grant by the U.S. Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration.

HTC, which supports U.S. hosiery firms through training programs, research and development, testing and product development, will use the funding to introduce U.S. hosiery producers to international markets in Japan, Singapore, Eastern Europe and Scandinavia.

“I believe this grant will provide a realistic opportunity in helping our industry expand its borders and discover new markets,” said Jon Shugart of The Hosiery Association, a trade group that operates in conjunction with HTC.

In addition, the grant will help HTC to assist U.S. companies with key exporting services such as translation, product repackaging and the development of e-commerce tools.

The grant comes through the Department of Commerce’s Market Development Cooperator Program, a public-private partnership developed to help small- and mid-size businesses expand exports that support jobs.
