L.A. Fashion Week Spring '06: Kevan Hall

Designer Kevan Hall took a mental journey to the Lost City of Atlantis to find inspiration for his Spring 2006 collection that debuted on the runway Oct. 16 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City, Calif.

Hall’s trademark elegance was the common thread linking all 43 looks. His silhouettes featured nipped-in waists and full circle skirts at a conservative ballerina length. His satin evening gowns were cut on the bias and had a fluid flow to them.

A classically styled linen suit with pearl-encrusted pockets started off the show. In keeping with the sea theme, Hall used real coral branches to add a touch of color to an oyster tulle bustier dress and an oyster tulle blouse that was paired with a long satin skirt.

Hall used colors that varied from shades of sea green to sand to off-white and were highlighted with lots of oceanic embellishments. “My girl for day is in washed linen sprinkled with freshwater pearls and caviar beads,” said Hall, the former designer for the Halston Signature collection. “We have embroidery and beading that shimmer like water.”

For evening, colors were in subdued tones of white with touches of sea greens, ice blues and aquas. —Deborah Belgum
