L.A. Fashion Week Spring '06: Pegah Anvarian

Pegah Anvarian’s draped jersey creations have earned her the moniker “jersey girl,” but this season the Los Angeles–based designer continued to expand her collection to include new designs in new fabrications.

Charlize Theron, Ivana Milicevic, Marcelle Nilon and Lisa Rinna were on hand to see Anvarian’s Spring ’06 collection on Oct. 17 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City, Calif.

“Working with new materials is so fun and different for me—every season I add more,” she said. “I have to be comfortable with what I’m doing. Everything I do is very intuitive. I never look at the trends. I go with what I really want to do and who I really am.”

This season, the collection included silk viscose, gabardine, Lurex, hand-knit raffia, bamboo knits and metallic brocades.

Anvarian said she was inspired by Jamaica and infused her styles with the sexy, sultry feeling of festive dance hall music and the colors of the coral reefs mixed with shades of tangerine, ocean blue, emerald and pineapple. The collection was suitable for Los Angeles or any island destination with relaxed tanks paired with open-side knit cardigans and knee-length shorts, ethnic-inspired Lurex and raffia knit dresses, and tops and sexy ombre silk dresses in varying lengths. —N.
