L.A. Fashion Week Spring '06: Samora Designs

The skies were cloudy on Oct. 19, but the look was summery on the runway at Los Angeles–based Samora Designs at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios.

Summer Olayan, Samora design chief, said her fifth collection was inspired by the golden hues and bright flowers of the Spanish countryside. The Iberian influence was easy to pick out in pieces such as the crimson ruffle-tailed gown with a plunging neckline.

Samora’s sporty styles included cream-colored Bermuda shorts paired with a camisole in tangerine. Another daytime look featured cream-colored tweed pants with a hand-stitched back pocket matched with a lace-trimmed tulle blouse.

Another theme of the collection was sheer cotton-voile garments with watercolor floral prints. Evening styles included a coral body-hugging, cinched dress with shoulder straps and a white gown with a front slit and a ruched crimson bustier. —Andrew Asch
