John Varvatos Debuts New Prototype Store

John Varvatos tried a new design direction when he opened a 4,219- square-foot store at South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, Calif., on Sept. 12. Unlike the California bungalow–inspired feel of the Varvatos store in West Hollywood, Calif., the South Coast Plaza store features a more urban look with painted brick walls and ash floors. His customers will encounter a 30-foot table at the entrance, which Varvatos said provides “a new landscape for presenting merchandise.” Another prominent feature of the store is a “concept room” with red painted walls, where the company will feature its denim offerings. —Andrew Asch
