Playboy Parties at 50

Playboy Enterprises Inc. threw a Sunset Beach–themed party for retailers and California Market Center executives April 4 at the $50 million Playboy Mansion in Los Angeles.

The night’s rainstorm threw a wet towel on the party theme, but guests were still treated to 14 looks from Playboy’s fashion lines. Models and playmates informally showed lingerie and swimwear for men and women in the mansion’s grotto area. Also shown was denim, with stitch work of Playboy’s iconic bunny ears emblazoned on the rear pockets, and cocktail wear from the Playboy Icon line.

Retail price points range from $25 for T-shirts to $148 for jeans to more than $650 for a cocktail dress.

Good times are the inspiration for these lines, said Aaron Duncan, Playboy’s creative director. But maintaining the venerable brand is hard work. “Playboy is 50 years old,” Duncan said. “Our challenge is to make sure it never grows old.” —Andrew Asch
