Ranahan Launches Men's

Ranahan, the year-old women’s premium denim line started by sisters Amy and Allison Gammon and based in Los Angeles, will be launching a men’s collection for Fall 2006.“

We’ve been getting a lot of requests for a men’s line,” Allison said. The new men’s collection will feature the same pared-down Western aesthetic and attention to fit that scored the fledgling company shelf space in some of the country’s best denim purveyors.

From the line’s inception, the sisters have been fielding requests for men’s denim. “Our girl’s denim is sort of masculine and clean. Buyers often thought we were a men’s line,” Amy said. “You can shoot me if you ever see lace in our line,” she joked.

Although men’s denim represents a big opportunity for Ranahan and demand from buyers is strong, “we’re starting off slow,” Amy said. “We’d like to really get a grip on the women’s market first.”

To that end, Ranahan’s men’s line will debut with two silhouettes in two washes. A classic five-pocket jean will appeal to denim purists, while a skinnier silhouette inspired by skaters and surfers will appeal to an edgier clientele. Both fits will be available in a basic raw rinse and a beat-up vintage wash.

The men’s line will keep the classic Ranahan details of exaggerated back pockets, side stitches and burned-in branding. The back pocket design will be butched-up a bit with a retro Army-inspired design.

Set to hit stores in August, the line will wholesale for $85. For more information, call (213) 622-6106 or visit www.ranahanjeans.com.
