Name Game
Now that Federated Department Stores Inc. is one big, happy family after acquiring the May Co. in 2005, its board of directors wants to change the corporate name to Macy’s Group Inc. Shareholders will be asked to approve the new name at an annual shareholder meeting May 18. “Macy’s Group is a name that more accurately reflects the transformation of our business in recent years,” said Terry Lundgren, Federated’s chairman, president and chief executive. The May Co. operated a number of department stores under different names, including Robinsons-May. All those stores have changed their nameplates to Macy’s. Federated’s other chain of stores is Bloomingdale’s. Federated has recently sold its Lord & Taylor, David’s Bridal and Priscilla of Boston divisions.
