Co-Founder Kester Returns to Cherokee

Jay Kester was one of the co-founders of Cherokee Inc. but left in 1993 to pursue other opportunities. Kester was recently rehired as the company’s new executive vice president, marketing.

“I am thrilled to be back working with Jay,” Robert Margolis, Cherokee chairman and chief executive officer, said in a company statement. “His experience will be a tremendous asset as we groom our teams to be prepared for the opportunities that will be surfacing as the new world economy continues to unfold.”

Cherokee—which markets, manages and licenses its brands, including Cherokee, Sideout and Carole Little—recently struck a number of new deals. The company inked an exclusive-representation deal with interior designer Kelly Hoppen, designer of high-profile projects including The Mumuri hotel in Barcelona, Spain; the W1 restaurant in the United Kingdom; The Royal Mougins Golf Club in the South of France; and British Airways’ first-class cabins. Cherokee also struck an exclusive-representation deal with skin care specialist Dr. Susan Evans, director of dermatology at Cosmetic Physicians of Beverly Hills and creator of the skin care line Refresh Skin Care. —Alison A.
