Organic Cotton Growers Launch Sourcing Site

The American Cotton Growers, a farmer-owned denim mill in Littlefield, Texas, has launched a new eco-friendly denim product, SafeDenim, and a sourcing Web site where manufacturers of apparel, home furnishings and crafts can purchase fabrics in small quantities.

Visitors to www.safedenim.com can purchase fabrics in 30-yard and 70-yard rolls. Orders are shipped within two days, according to the company. SafeDenim is spun, dyed and woven from cotton produced by ACG farmers, who founded the mill in 1975.

On average, ACG produces 37 million yards of denim annually, according to Wallace L. Darneille, president and chief executive officer of the Plains Cotton Cooperative Association, ACG’s parent company, a farmer-owned cooperative based in Lubbock, Texas. —Alison A. Nieder
