L.A. Fashion Week Spring '09: Brian Lichtenberg

Brian Lichtenberg, the underground fashion darling whose sexy, body-conscious styles are favorites with editors and club kids alike, didn’t disappoint with his Oct. 17 show at BoxEight Studios in Los Angeles. His edited collection showed versatility and restraint—and was packed with the kind of quirky, seductively androgynous pieces that have become his mainstay.

Lichtenberg offset over-the-top pieces, such as a skintight patchwork bodysuit and a mesh and lace second-skin shirt, with more-wearable (but still edgy) pieces. Shiny latex five-pocket pants cut like skinny jeans, tanks with deep armholes and monochromatic lace insets, and sequined zipper-front vests felt fresh.

Lichtenberg—who didn’t stray from a palette of white, black, gray and purple—showed his version of the oh-so-popular bandage dress, sending out a little black number that flashed plenty of skin. In Lichtenberg’s world, the starlet and socialite staple is held together by a seam down the front and nowhere else. The effect, like the rest of his collection, is playfully tongue-in-cheek and chic. —Erin Barajas
