WWDMAGIC Women's Collections Spring 2009 Fashion Show

It will surely be a colorful summer—if the WWDMAGIC Women’s Collections runway show at the MAGIC Marketplace is any indication. During the Aug. 25–27 run of the trade show in Las Vegas, a multitude of colorful looks—especially dresses—dominated the runway.

In a “Cocktails at 5:00” theme, there were brightly colored hibiscus prints, polka dots and paisleys decorating everything from one-shoulder frocks to tunics and long halter dresses.

Prim is also in—in a Southern belle kind of way. In the “Steel Magnolias”–themed group, a pastel dress and jacket ensemble came in lipstick pink, and a cactus-green suit was ladylike yet modern. And cardigans were flirty, layered over sweet little dresses.

Florals ranged from ditsy prints to watercolor effects and bold oversize varieties in “Garden State.” The look was refreshingly feminine on dresses, flirty tops and colorful jeans.

With all the uuml;ber-feminine looks on the runway, a menswear-inspired trend was bound to balance things out. “Borrowed From the Boys” showcased chic tuxedo-inspired jackets and shirts, sexy vests and skinny pants in a black-and-white palette.

On the spicier side, “Marrakesh Express” took the audience to an exotic bohemian summer of tie-dyed dresses, peasant tops, peace signs and fringe.

For the show’s finale, a “Kaleidoscope” eveningwear group in a bright palette of apple green, citrus, orange and fuchsia completed the show with panache. —N. Jayne Seward
