Cultural Exchange

Style from around the globe is on trend for Summer, and it’s fast becoming a staple in our wardrobes. The cultural mash-up stems from destinations as far reaching as India, Australia and Russia and is creating an impact in the marketplace. With fashion weeks held twice yearly around the world in cities such as Mumbai, Moscow, Berlin and Sao Paulo and a slew of fashion magazines cropping up in these areas, the word is bound to get out.

IMG’s Lakme Fashion Week just celebrated 10 years of fashion in Mumbai, India, with 65 designers on the runway. The event kicked off with the “Barbie All Doll’d Up” 50th-anniversary fashion show and included Fashion for Relief: “Mai Mumbai,” an Indian and international designer show benefiting the families of victims of the Mumbai terrorist attacks.

In addition, Volvo Fashion Week in Moscow presented by Visa just completed its March 21–27 run. Designers on the runway showcased a variety of looks with global appeal. Styles ranged from the vivid colors, artistic embellishment, folkloric prints and layered looks in Mumbai to modern, yet futuristic, metallic-driven designs in Moscow. Here are a few looks from the runway that cross the borders—with style. For more from the international runways, see our slideshow page.
