Outerwear Tariffs

Skiers and hunters will be happy to hear that legislation was introduced in Congress on July 10 that would eliminate the 17 percent to 28 percent duty on imported recreational outerwear. The Optimal Use of Trade to Develop Outerwear and Outdoor Recreation (OUTDOOR) Act, or H.R.316B and S. 1439, would eliminate tariffs on jackets and pants for outdoor activities such as skiing and hunting. The bill would also require companies benefiting from the duty elimination to contribute a portion of their savings to the Sustainable Textile and Apparel Research Fund, which provides grants for developing advanced lean manufacturing technologies.
