Jared Gold is Back, and He Has Plans

Designer Jared Gold, who was a regular on the Los Angeles Fashion Week circuit several years ago, is back—back in Los Angeles, back to wholesaling (after years as a retailer based in Salt Lake City) and back to the business of creating events that blend Los Angeles’ art and fashion scene with an underground edge.

Gold has teamed up with artist Joshua Petker to create Gold Vs. Petker at Club Social in Hollywood on July 30, which will feature a Holiday '09 runway show.

The invitation says “Come see the colored gore explosion between designer Jared Gold and artist Joshua Petker.”

Gold describes the partnership best: “The runway show next week is a collaboration between Joshua Petker and I. The collection is built around images from his art, and there are even a few show pieces that were actually built by Joshua and I together. We are marketing the group for holiday shipping in October. This will be my first wholesale collection in almost eight years!”

The Los Angeles event will kick off Jared Gold’s Fashion Renegade Tour of the American West, which will benefit the American Artisan Foundation, a nonprofit fashion education organization. According to Gold, AAF is “focused on assisting up-and-comers with fashion education and uniting manufacturers and designers to bring fashion jobs and manufacturing back to American soil.”

The Fashion Renegade Tour promises to bring “high fashion to the heartland” by offering large-format free fashion events that will feature local models. The designer will present more details about the tour at a press conference before the runway show on July 30.

Tickets for the runway show range from $10 for backstage pit passes to $100 for VIP floor tickets, and proceeds will benefit the AAF. Guests can also bid on silent-auction items, including three custom-couture gowns by Gold and a portrait by Petker. And VIP pass holders can donate for photos that will be retouched to feature a backdrop environment create by Gold and Austin Young. The photos will be retouched and e-mailed to those who donate.
