Miami Swim Fashion Week Cruise 2010: Aqua Di Lara

Montreal–based Aqua Di Lara debuted it’s 2010 collection for the first time at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim on July 17. The luxurious collection was made for the girl out to make a statement. Vibrant colors and bold architectural designs characterized the look which “stemmed from a fusion of femininity, power and confidence.” Designer Reyhan Sofraci said she is inspired by many things and this season her travels around the world influenced her designs. The collection ranged from classic nautical looks in navy and white to colorful monokinis in vibrant tropical hues and futuristic metallic styles with bold graphic prints. And there was a clear nod to the ’80s with color blocking, cutouts and asymmetric styling. Sofraci’s signature geometric designs reflect her life-long interest in architecture. “I love graphic prints and graphic cuts and so forth. So I guess that’s kind of peeking in my swimwear designs,” she explained. “It’s definitely a lot of geometry.”But even with the architectural emphasis, Sofraci is focused on creating a flattering hourglass figure. “I think a woman should have a nice figure,” she explained.“So with the lines, I always try to create the illusion that some areas are bigger and other areas are smaller.” —N.
