New Resources Guide: Sofie Olgaard

Danish designer Sofie Olgaard draws on her Scandinavian roots for inspiration in her eponymous fashion line. Now in her second season, Olgaard debuted her line with a Spring 2009 collection at GenArt’s Fresh Faces San Francisco.

Olgaard’s line is entirely made in San Francisco, where she is now based. Top retailers include Fred Segal, Pieces of Brooklyn and The Mission Statement in San Francisco.

“I hope that the pieces I create are something that in the sense of style can withstand the test of time, and be admired 15 to 20 years from now,” Olgaard said.

Her favorite materials to work with are silk, silk blends and wool. For the Fall collection, she researched “wartime nurses” and “used style lines, shapes and colors but without making it to literal.”

Highlights in the new collection that are among her personal favorites include: several pairs of structured pants with bows or belts (in dark blue, light gray and black); a white shirt with dark-blue buttons and a high collar that can be folded over; and an oversized-batwing dress with a slit opening in the back, tied with a long bow, available in blue, taupe and black.—Dena Smolek
