Something for Everyone in This Contemporary Collection

For the kickoff of Los Angeles Fashion Market, the California Market Center on Aug. 9 presented a “Contemporary Collections” runway show on the first day of market.

Buyers and press enjoyed a catered luncheon and organic wine while they viewed a group runway show featuring Holiday/Resort collections. The show included designers ranging from casual young contemporary brands such as Nick & Mo and Closet Romantic to better contemporary dresses by Silk Culture and designer gowns by Sue Wong.

Feminine with an edge is an ongoing trend, and Closet Romantic mixed the look well by pairing lace skirts with mannish blazers and adding ruffles to jackets that topped trousers.

Danish brand Gestuz had the edgiest lineup, with its trendy rock-infused collection, which included leather jackets, striped leggings and mesh tops paired with shorts.

Silk Culture focused on creating silk party ensembles for Holiday. A gray ruffled-neck jumpsuit was chic, a long black gown with beaded shoulders was glamorous and a pink blazer paired with colorful printed pants had the right amount of attitude.

For A.B.S. by Allen Schwartz, affordable luxury is a key concept. A gray crisscross dress and military blazer paired with jeans fit the bill perfectly. Sue Wong closed the show with lovely vintage-inspired cocktail dresses and plenty of her opulent gowns with the requisite lace, fringe and feathers.—N. Jayne Seward
