Where Technology Meets Fashion

There always seems to have been a separation between the logical realm of technology and the Web and the romantic, creative nature of the fashion world, but with the proliferation of fashion online—from style blogs to social networks—it’s beginning to bridge the gap between geek and chic.

Google is taking the next step in tech-fashion with the debut of a designer line featuring pieces inspired by the search engine giant.

Last October, Google partnered with the designers and 2009 finalists for the Council of Fashion Designers of America/Vogue Fashion Fund and introduced iGoogle themes featuring artistic renderings of the designers’ creations, and three designers were also asked to create a unique piece.

The emerging designers took any element of Google to draw inspiration for their designs. House of Waris designer Waris Ahluwalia created a search-inspired diamond magnifying pendant, Gary Graham designed a deconstructed, vintage-inspired T-shirt featuring the red Google Maps marker and Ohne Titel designed a multi-yarn knit cardigan in black featuring Google’s signature color scheme.

Select pieces are available for purchase on the Google store, including a version of the Gary Graham tee, the House of Waris pendant in sterling silver and an oversized Google-color scarf by Ohne Titel. Proceeds from the sale go to support the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund.
