Boardwalk to Catwalk

SAN DIEGO—Action sports may be steeped in testosterone, but brands at the Action Sports Retailer Trade Expo do a good job of distilling the boardsport lifestyle into women’s fashion. Brands such as O’Neill, RVCA, Fox, Body Glove, Volcom, Element, Rusty, Billabong and Levi’s showed their women’s product on the runway Feb. 3–4 during ASR’s fashion show on the show floor. Some of the themes—plaids, workwear shirts, logos and stripes—bled over from the brands’ men’s fashion. But other looks—neon bikinis, second-skin dresses, ethnic and animal prints, and leggings—were all girl. —Erin Barajas
