Lenzing Introduces New Viscose for Cool Weather

Lenzing, the Austrian cellulose fiber manufacturer, has teamed up to market a German company’s product that makes clothes and underwear warmer to wear.

Lenzing will be marketing and promoting Viloft, a specialty viscose fiber manufactured by Kilheim. Viloft is said to provide 30 percent more thermal insulation than cotton-knit fabrics because of its modified cross section, which creates air pockets in the yarn. The air pockets provide better insulation compared with conventional viscose fibers, which tend to be smooth and cooling.

“Viloft enriches the Lenzing fiber portfolio and fits perfectly under the Lenzing banner and expands the fiber technologies we are able to offer to the textile market,” said Dieter Eichinger, head of the business unit for Lenzing Textiles.

Lenzing said that when Viloft is blended with wool and synthetic fibers, it is particularly effective in keeping people warm because it wicks away moisture and is soft. It is easy to machine-wash. This makes it ideal for lingerie.

Matthew North, head of sales for Viloft, believes Lenzing will be able to expand the fiber’s potential and sales. “Taking advantage of the Lenzing group’s international presence with marketing organizations in every continent will clearly accelerate Viloft’s expansion in the global market.”—Deborah Belgum
