L.A. Fashion Week Spring 2011: Angel Johnson

Angel Johnson explored the ideas of darkness and light, as well as angels and skeletons in her collection shown on Oct. 15 at Concept Fashion Week at the Spring Arts Tower in downtown Los Angeles. The Los Angeles designer kicked off the show with a candy-colored palette of lace and embroidered fabrications, as well as iridescent fabrics layered like candy wrappers over other pieces. She then shifted into darker tones, introducing black lace, embroidered sari fabrics and a print featuring the Lady of Guadalupe. Johnson topped her sculptural creations with her own jewelry, including a pair of angel wings and necklaces made to resemble the bones of the rib cage.—Alison A. Nieder
