Iconix Takes Mossimo to India

New York–based Iconix Brand Group Inc. inked its first license agreement in India for its Mossimo brand.

The company struck a long-term direct-to-retail license agreement with Arvind Limited for the Mossimo brand in India.

Arvind is a wholesaler, retailer and distributor and will hold an exclusive multi-year license to manufacture and distribute Mossimo apparel and accessories throughout India, including 170 stores owned or franchised by Arvind. Arvind plans to grow its retail operations to 500 stores by 2014. Mossimo is projected to bow in India later this year.

“India is an exciting new frontier for Iconix as we continue to roll out our portfolio of brands throughout the world,” said Neil Cole, chairman and chief executive officer of Iconix. “India’s growing middle class has a preference for American brands, and retail outlets are quickly developing, making this a prime time for our expansion into the marketplace.”

Iconix’s brand portfolio includes Candie’s, Bongo, Badgley Mischka, Joe Boxer, Rampage, Mudd, London Fogg, Ocean Pacific, Danskin and Roca Wear. The company also has stakes in Ed Hardy, Mark Ecko, Zoo York, Material Girl and Peanuts.

Arvind has licensing relationships with several international brands, including Gant, Arrow, Izod, Energie, US Polo Association and Cherokee. The company also operates value retail chain Megamart.—Alison A. Nieder
