Art 'Peepshow' Celebrates the Pin-Up Girl

The racy pin-up girl has been a celebrated figure in Americana for decades. Burlesque icon Dita Von Teese, singer Katy Perry, and the whole underwear-as-outerwear movement owe a great deal of thanks to the ladies before them and the bustiers they aim to fill.

On Feb. 5, the Gallery Nucleus in Alhambra will celebrate the pin-up girl with an opening reception for the “Poster Peepshow: The Art of the Pin-Up” exhibition. The exhibit will feature original work by contemporary artists—Keron Grant, Craig Elliott, Jenny Gase-Baker, Ryuichi Ogino, Marguerite Sauvage, Jim Silke, Francis Vallejo and more—paying homage to pin-up masters Gil Elvgren, George Petty and Alberto Vargas.

L.A. glam girl Lenora Claire and Catwoman herself Julie Newmar will make special appearances.

For even more titillation for the senses, there will also be a free live-figure drawing session with the Suicide Girls.

The exhibition runs until Feb. 28. For more information, contact the Gallery Nucleus at (626) 458-7482 or www.gallerynucleus.com.
