Caruso Names First COO

With the idea of doubling in size over the next five years, Los Angeles retail real estate developer Caruso Affiliated announced that Paul Kurzawa will be guiding expansion as the first chief operating officer in the company’s 20-year history.

Rick Caruso, Caruso Affiliated’s founder and chief executive, said Kurzawa had worked at his company since 2006, where he was responsible for oversight of the company’s property management, marketing, leasing and financial-reporting performance. His most recent position at Caruso Affiliated was executive vice president

“With Paul in this new role to oversee day-to-day operations, I can fully focus on the firm’s strategic vision, including our expansion into new business lines and new developments,” Caruso said.

Caruso Affiliated developed and operates popular Southern California shopping malls such as The Grove in Los Angeles and The Americana at Brand in Glendale, Calif.

New developments include residential project 8500 Burton Way, an apartment building on the corner of Burton Way and Le Doux Road in Los Angeles; The Miramar Beach Resort & Bungalows in Montecito, Calif.; and Caruso Affiliated’s bid for retail operations at Terminal 2 and Thomas Bradley International Terminal at Los Angeles International Airport.

Caruso Affiliated also announced two additional executive changes. Jackie Levy was named senior vice president, operations, and Matt Middlebrook was named as senior vice president of development. Both will report to Kurzawa.—Andrew Asch
