Ocean Showroom

Lady Liberty Building, suite 301843 S. Los Angeles St.(213) 489-3732

Three flights up the Lady Liberty Building is a cavernous space with hardwood floors, high ceilings and large windows that overlook Los Angeles Street.

Inside the Ocean Showroom is owner Brigette Hassan Lubin, who is busy representing five different labels geared for the contemporary woman who wants quality and style but at a reasonable price.

When Lubin opened her showroom in August 2009, after being director of sales at Splendid/Ella Moss and, before that, at Chip & Pepper, she carried just two lines: Krisa, the Los Angeles lifestyle brand known for its flowing linen pants that have become a popular staple at Nordstrom, and Krisa’s sister label of tops and dresses, called Lanston, Both are designed by Krisabelle Ann Tan. Krisa wholesales for $42 to $158 and Lanston for $26 to $68.

Last October, Lubin added a new label designed by Janine Blain, the former vice president at trend-forecasting firm The Doneger Group. That self-named brand, Blain, consists primarily of sophisticated silk tops that wholesale for $55 to $72.

Recently, Lubin picked up a new label called Kolae, designed by Cameron Spear, who studied at Parsons School of Design in New York and Paris. The dressy pieces for the sexy, cosmopolitan woman wholesale for $90 to $190 and are manufactured in New York, where Spear lives.

Lubin also carries one jewelry line, Shaya, which is handmade and designed by Shay Mehubad in Brooklyn, N.Y. The collection of geometric shapes reflects the shapes of the Big Apple with gold and silver squares.

“For me to sell something, I have to love it,” Lubin said, explaining why she represents the lines she does.—Deborah Belgum
