Tel Aviv Fashion Week Has a Stylish Debut

Tel Aviv Fashion Week celebrated its inaugural edition with a three-day event showcasing the country’s rich culture and design talent.

Honorary designer Roberto Cavalli showed his support for the Israeli fashion community by presenting his Spring 2012 collection on the event’s opening night to overwhelming reception.

The event was organized by the Israel Textile and Fashion Association and the producer of Beverly Hills Fashion Week. It presented a diverse cross section of some of the country’s most established and emerging designers. Gideon Karen Oberson, Sasson Kedem, Yaniv Persy, Yossef, Alembika, Dorin Frankfurt and Mira Zwillinger are just a few of the country’s premier designers who showed their Spring collections.

A student show by the renowned Shenkar College of Engineering and Design and Upcoming Designer group show debuted some of the country’s most promising design talents. Israel Ohayon won a design competition for his conceptual collection with bold futuristic shapes and innovative materials.

The Tel Aviv runway saw its share of star power too. Actress Dorit Bar Or - soon to be known as the Israeli Peggy Bundy - showed her chic collection in between filming the upcoming Israeli version of tv series “Married with Children.” And “Project Runway Israel” winner, Alon Livne, showed his beautiful collection of goddess-like evening and swimwear.

A group fashion show benefitting the local Israeli Gay Youth (IGY) organization featured 40 designers worn by 40 of Israel’s top celebrities. It was a fun-filled, yet meaningful closing to the 3-day event.
