Fashion and Celebrities for a Legal Cause

The crowd inside the tent at Sunset Gower Studios

Celebrities seems to be a rare sight these days at Los Angeles fashion shows.

But on Sunday, a fundraiser for the Public Counsel Law Center, a pro bono law organization, drew some Tinsel Town star power to L.A. Fashion Weekend at Sunset Gower Studios.

Front and center was Mike Farrell, best remembered for playing Capt. B.J. Hunnicutt on the TV series "Mash." Also front and center was his book "Just Call Me Mike: A Journey to Actor and Activist," which was included in the gift bags handed out to the crowd that crammed into the fashion runway tent. Sitting nearby were Sara Ramirez, who stars as Dr. Callie Torres in "Grey's Anatomy" and Grant Show, who was on "Private Practice," but is better known for his role as Jake Harrison on TV's "Melrose Place."

The fashion show, featuring four designers - Karen Capili, Kelly Nishimoto, Dina Bar-El, and Betsey Johnson - helped raise funds for Public Counsel, which provides the needy with free legal services. The tent was so packed that the temperature rose to at least 90 degrees. People were briskly fanning themselves with brochures and magazines to cool off.

The fashions were just as hot. Dina Bar-El never misses with her beautiful cocktail attire and evening gowns. Kelly Nishimoto displayed comfortable yet sexy lounge wear and dresses and Betsey Johnson showed her love for everything velvet. Karen Capili was on the wild side with her over the top dresses that resembled tiered wedding cakes.
