Alternative Apparel Spring 2012

Alternative Apparel has been best known for solid colors, said Greg Alterman, founder and chief creative officer of the fashion basics label, and it was time to try something new. The results were presented at Style Fashion Week Oct. 18 at Alternative’s Oasis of Color runway show for its Spring 2012 collection.

“We’ve been listening to our customers. They wanted something with a little more pop,” he said.

The 26-look show took Alternative’s basic roots and gave it a high desert sensibility, said Lissa Zwahlen, Alternative’s design director. The spring collection, called Oasis of Color, had the worn look and colors reminiscent of the buildings around high desert towns such as Twentynine Palms, Calif.

Men’s looks featured Baja hoodies and basic twill pants with desert coloring. Others included corduroy shorts and color-blocked sweatshirts. Women’s looks included maxi dresses, tunics and vagabond shirts with a desert coloring and stripe designs.—Andrew Asch Photos from the event can be found here.
