Kareena's Trends Spring 2012
India was the inspiration behind the tunics and dresses that Kareena’s Trends showed on the runway Oct. 14 at the Vibiana events center during Style Fashion Week Los Angeles.
The diaphanous creations were heavy on hand-beaded embellishments that used semiprecious stones, beads and crystals to create an artistic field of glitter around necklines and sleeves.
The three forces behind the label are brothers Kunal and Karan Sethi and Sheree Carella. The Sethis are from India, where the line is produced with hand-dyed fabrics and other labor-intensive details.
For Spring 2012, the designers expanded the line’s look into tie-dyed and ombreacute; garments that had a decidedly bohemian feel. On the runway, the tunics and dresses were worn over bathing suits, but the garments can be expanded from coverups to tunics and dresses to go from the beach to a night out on the town.
Colors were vivid and traveled all around the spectrum. There were bright yellows, stunning lavenders, sunny oranges, soft aquas and even black. Kareena’s Trends, based in Reseda, Calif., started in 1994 as a home-furnishings company but branched out into fashion in 2002. Many of its designs are sold at boutiques and resorts around the world.—Deborah Belgum
