MIAMI SWIM WEEK

Surf and Ethnic Style Ruling the Runways in Miami

Iconic surf brand ROXY kicked off Miami Swim Week on Thursday night and surf and ethnic-inspired looks have ruled the runway since. The event was part of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim’s opening night celebration, which took place at the Raleigh hotel on July 18 despite looming rain showers. It was one of the many poolside fashion shows and parties featuring designers such as Chloe and Tory Burch that have literally taken over the chic hotel scene in South Beach.

ROXY celebrated 25 years of style with fruity pop-tails, hors d’oeuvres and the launch of its fashion forward new Pop Surf label. The active surf meets scuba-inspired looks continued with rash guards, crop tops, boy shorts and leggings in many collections. Australian label Suboo presented a directional collection with sporty architectural crop tops and Balenciaga-esque asymmetric skirts with bold color blocking.

Mara Hoffman Swim and CM Cia.Marítima also showed active looks with ethnic print rash guards and leotards. Hoffman, this year's Mercedes-Benz Presents' designer, channeled Indian inspiration into her signature artistic prints, which were infused with bright colors. CM Cia.Marítima was also colorfully bright with beautiful ethnic print knit fabrics developed especially for this season's Gypset girl.

Intricate craftsman-like details such as laser cuts and macramé were prevalent in designer collections such as Tori Praver, Zimmermann and Luxe by Lisa Vogel, who are presenting their collections at independent showrooms and on the trade show floor at Salon Allure, The Cabana and the SwimShow.

Here are a few looks from Miami Swim Week.
