LA FASHION WEEK

Fashion Business Inc. All Aboard Fashion Fund-Raiser

Fashion Business Inc. returned to Union Station in downtown Los Angeles on Oct. 15 for its annual fashion fund-raiser, All Aboard.

Kicking off the event was a runway show by Shay Todd, the winner of the Moss Adams Fashion Innovator Award. The Los Angeles designer showed highlights from her resort lifestyle collection, which included an engineered print in sunset shades, easy dip-dye pieces, which was perfect for layering over her swimsuits.

Moss Adams Partner Martin Hughes presented Todd with the award with help from a UPS delivery man (UPS was a sponsor).

In a video presentation, Hughes said the MAFI award, now in its 10th year, is an opportunity for Moss Adams “to give back to an industry that has been good to us. “

The event also highlighted the work of several Los Angeles brands, including Johnny Was, which showed dresses and separates that masterfully combined bright colorful prints and embroidery. A gown with a voluminous skirt was a hit with the crowd.

Another hit was Rosario’s ultra-mode fem-bot collection, which featured a series of royal blue and yellow dresses with plastic panels followed by black and white pieces in wide stripes and geometric prints. All styles were worn by models in identical black bob wigs.

Liberty Sage showed the sweet side of contemporary with its drop-waist dress in a floral print and sporty pants with a tuxedo stripe detail down the leg.

Maison Castel paired crisp deconstructed tuxedo shirts with leggings and leather obi-style belts. On the other end of the spectrum was a denim dress with appliquéd hemp and waistband detail at the neckline.

Continuous kicked off its segment with an enthusiastic dance troupe, followed by the collection, which included lace leggings. The “Sex, Drugs and Christian Rock” T-shirt drew applause from the audience.

Nameless USA showed easy to mix, cute separates and Jet Age showed a wide-ranging collection that included graphic tees, color-blocked and raglan styles for men and women, as well as leather bomber jackets and dresses.

Quynh Paris showed more avant guard pieces with wired hems and unconventional materials such as a plasticized mesh.

Closing the show was Ximera Valero, who was named FBI designer of the year and member of the year. Her collection included a few of her signature convertible pieces, including a gold metallic jumpsuit, as well as gowns and separates in glamorous metallics, velvets and sheer fabrications.
