Speedo USA Incorporating Used Nylon From Italy

What happens to all those nylon fabric scraps left over when making swimsuits for Speedo USA?

Before, they might have ended up in a landfill, but now they will be recycled into nylon fabric that will be reused in more Speedo USA suits.

Aquafil, an Italian textile company, is working with Speedo USA in a program where swimwear scraps are recycled into Aquafil's 100 percent recycled Econyl nylon.

Launching this week is Speedo USA's new Speedo PowerFlex Eco swimwear fabric made from Econyl that will be used in suits for men and women. PowerFlex Eco is made of 78 percent Econyl nylon and 22 percent Lycra. The result is a fabric that retains its shape up to 10 times longer than traditional swimwear fabrics, is resistant to chlorine and doesn't sag or bag.

The result is less fabric sitting in landfills and more recycled fabric in the system.
