Creative Culver City Shopping Center Shaping Up

What is that old saying? Location, location, location.

That's what the developers behind Platform, a shopping center opening this spring in Culver City, were thinking. The Runyon Group is taking a four-acre 1960s-era auto dealership across from an Expo line stop in the Hayden Tract and converting it into a creative collection of eight different spaces connected by meandering gardens.

Several top-notch shops have signed up for leases. The latest to join the crowd is Magasin, the first store being opened by former Bloomingdale's men's fashion director Josh Peskowitz. Magasin will carry unstructured but well-crafted menswear that will see shirts selling for about $200 and pants for $300 to $400.

Magasin joins retailers such as Velvet by Graham & Spencer, luxe retailer Curve, luxury leather store Parabellum and athleisure shop Kilter. And Tribeca shoe designer Matt Bernson has signed a lease for his first West Coast store.

A number of unique eateries will populate the retail outpost too. There will be The Cannibal - heavy into beer and meat - as well as the first permanent location for Loqui, which specializes in Baja California-style tacos. The guys behind L.A.'s Bucato restaurant will be opening a new eatery called Thoroughbred.

With the Expo line being extended to Santa Monica by next year, this should be a good place to shop for those who like to take public transportation.
