Send in the Drones...Don’t Bother, They’re Here.
I (and may others) have been known to say “It’s always Fashion Week somewhere.” And this week, it was in Silicon Valley.
Held May 12–14 at The Chapel in San Francisco, Silicon Valley Fashion Week is the brainchild of San Francisco–based Betabrand, a company with a nifty crowd-sourcing business model and a healthy sense of humor.
To kick off the event, which featured a lot of wearable technology, Betabrand showed a collections modeled by drones. The styles flew across the runway piloted by remote.
Among the items shown during the sold-out event was the Rayn Jacket, a convertible rain jacket developed at MIT’s Open Style Lab (and sold through Betabrand).
Other companies showcasing their work at SVFW included smart watch maker Pebble; Torch, which makes lighted bike helmets; Electric Styles, which makes light-up apparel for men and women; and a company currently in the funding stage with a product called Drum Pants.
