TRADE SHOW
Women’s Apparel, Denim at MAGIC
Aug. 10–12, MAGIC by Informa merged all women’s trend, contemporary, young contemporary and denim collections into the Central Hall at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Beachy, coastal inspirations were prominent on the show floor along with basics, eveningwear, boho, vintage, western, whimsy, mix-and-match fabrics with layered details, and longer hem lines with a more romanticized version of sophistication.
“We’re seeing such a healthy market for women’s. You walk in and you see the energy, time, effort and merchandising that goes into these booths,” said Emilie Lewis, vice president of events for the Las Vegas Marketplace. “I think in retail you’re seeing this departure from the malls back onto Main Street, which I love, and those boutiques are really leaning into it.”
7 for all Mankind and Mavi presented both men’s and women’s denim. Hidden Jeans in Los Angeles debuted its ultra-soft Cloud Tech Denim in a super-wide palazzo pant.
The solid rinse wash was back at Just Black Denim, made in Vernon, Calif., with stretch wide-leg and scissor-cut hems.
Dylan, headquartered in Gardena, Calif., featured its washed denim Blake button-up shirt with snap closures in 100 percent cotton.
With over 100 years of denim knowledge and craftsmanship, the pinstripe short, trouser and vest set from Silver Jeans Co., designed in Los Angeles, was a top number with a soft, luxurious hand and yarn-dyed, striped fabric.
“I need to be here to get a sense of what’s going on and work with the reps I know,” said Carissa Tronstad, a buyer based in Dallas for the Oxnard, Calif.– based Parts Unknown with nine stores. “I love all the bright prints and poplin; everyone wants that comfort.”
Fish stories were popular, especially at Los Angeles–based Wishlist. The cotton blended knit crew-neck sweater with fish design matched nicely with a checkered bubble crepe drawstring pant.
A play on the military uniform was designed in Los Angeles by Blue Velvet. The lace trim on the cuffs and bottom made it super feminine, displayed with a blousy floral printed denim twill pant.
“We want the trade show to be a great experience for our retailers and grow it to be a year-round brand engagement into a digital world, with content, analysis, trends, news and supply chain from the MAGIC brand,” said Simon Ferguson, executive vice president for fashion.
