L.A. Fashion Week Fall '07: 2(X)ist

There was much to see, despite the brevity of the garments at the 2(x)ist show on March 19, as scantily clad, muscle-bound men walked the runway at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios.

This was the New York–based men’s furnishings line’s first time at Smashbox, although the company has been staging small runway shows in Los Angeles for several seasons, according to 2(X)ist Design Director Jason Scarlatti.

“The reception has been overwhelming,” he said. “L.A. is our home away from home.”

The show drew local retailers—including West Hollywood, Calif.–based Alpha and Agoura Hills, Calif.–based chain M. Fredric Man—and a raucous crowd that included model and reality-show star Janice Dickenson.

The company set the light tone of the event by opening the show with performances by the Corona del Mar High School drum line and dance team, and the Los Angeles Laker Girls.

Looks on the runway included 2(X)ist’s Varsity line of briefs, boxers, tees and tanks in preppy athletic shades. The company also showed its Carbon line of trunks and no-show briefs with silver rib trim. A group called Bold featured wide rib-knit trim, and the company’s Soy collection is made from a blend of soy fibers and spandex. —Alison A. Nieder
