The Propr Way: Arquette & Harper Talk Up Their Americana Look

Americana Boys: Propr's David Arquette, left, and Ben Harper

Celebrity-endorsed fashion brands seem to be the most fleeting of trends. However, actor David Arquette and Grammy Award-winning musician Ben Harper guarantee their fashion collection, Propr, is built for a long haul. Their hoped-for longevity might come from their collection’s inspiration. It is the perennially stylish Americana look.

Said Harper, 39, “You don’t have to reinvent the wheel with this look. But there’s a lot of room to be surprised and a lot of stuff that has not been done with it.” Some of Propr’s fashions include oxford-style shirts with some offbeat colors like lemonade yellow.

Propr debuted in late 2008 and in the fall, the collection will be sold at more than 10 Bloomingdale’s locations, said Arquette, 38. In July, the duo opened a pop-up shop for their collection on Los Angeles’ stylish Abbott Kinney Boulevard. The shop looks like a mix between a hipster clothing store and a funky art gallery; what with its décor of Harper’s photography and a corrugated-cardboard portrait of Propr’s logo. The boutique displays Propr’s full men’s and women’s collection and is scheduled to close in December. Retail price points range from $48 for a T-shirt to $345 for a men’s blazer. Both Arquette and Harper fund the line, which later this year will be entirely manufactured in the United States.
