As far as primo surfing destinations go, Bangladesh’s mediocre shores next to India aren’t one of them. But that doesn’t stop the locals from forming a surf club.

Last year, San Diego-based Jedidiah and Surfing the Nations spent a few weeks with the groms of the Bangladesh Surf Club and used the colorful sights and spirit of the local culture as inspiration for the clothing brand’s Spring 2010 line, hitting stores now.

With pro surfer Kahana Kalama of Jedidiah leading the travelogue, the trip is documented in the short film “Gum for My Boat,” directed by Russell Brownley. Beginning with the first surfer in Bangladesh that bought a board off an Australian tourist for $20 in 1991, the film chronicles the everyday life of the impoverished kids as they help each other out on the streets and get stoked on surfing.

See a screening of the short film next Thursday, hosted by ZJ Boarding House, Indie on the Westside and Jedidiah at Air Condition Supper Club in Venice.
