At Ron Robinson Party, Burlesque Girls Lampoon Art

Fashion Collaborators Molly Crabapple and David Long of Dirtee Hollywood

There’s an art to throwing a fashion party. Then there’s the subversive fun of turning upside-down art-school convention. It happened at Ron Robinson/Fred Segal on March 18. Read on.

At the always-stylish Ron Robinson, Los Angeles-based trendy fashion label Dirtee Hollywood celebrated its debut collaboration with New York rebel artist Molly Crabapple. The result was a line of luxury t-shirts, jackets and what-not bearing Molly’s drawings of burlesque dancers.

Those expecting a typical party of DJs, cocktails and a bit of fashion might have been hit with a surprise. Molly’s twin obsessions of burlesque and lampooning art convention came to life at the party. Students from Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School (it’s a real organization; Molly is the founder) sat in groups at Ron Robinson sketching tattooed women wearing burlesque clothes.

That would have been enough for an interesting night. Then consider the crazy quilt guest list here. It included Patrick Gallagher of hit TV series Glee and James Kyson Lee of another hit TV series, Heroes. Oh yeah, there were underground luminaries such as cult artist Coop; 3-foot-10-inch burlesque entertainer Selene Luna; and Buck Angel, a porn star. Everyone seemed to get along. Better yet for Dirtee Hollywood, a lot of press hovered around the shindig, reporting on all of the wild fun.
