Peek at Lucky Founder's New Civilianaire Brand

Civilianaire boutique exterior

The first boutique for Civilianaire, Lucky Brand founders' Barry Perlman and Gene Montesano's new line, is scheduled to debut by the end of January.

But I got a preview of the premium denim line’s first boutique yesterday. (No great journalistic derring-do was used in the mission of writing this blog. I just dropped by the boutique at 8312 W. Third St. and asked if I could take a look. The assembled civilianaires were gracious enough to let me into the store still under construction.)

Civilianaire was designed for the obsessive denim head, and those with a jones for mid-20th century workwear.Jeans are constructed out of Japanese denim and defined by a gold stitch. The entire line is manufactured in Los Angeles County. Everything in the store is displayed on pegboard walls, just to add a blue collar vibe. Retail price points will range around $210 for a denim pant and $150 for a shirt.

If the store’s beer vibe and champagne prices seem to clash, consider the label’s name. According to the Urban Dictionary, a civilianaire looks like a working stiff and solid citizen, but can afford life’s extras with a little help from not entirely kosher, but non-violent, means. Thanks for the explainer dudes!
